Safe at Home Book available for preorder in North America

I am pleased to tell you all that the Safe at Home books are now on ships bound for North America and the United Kingdom. This is a limited printing/availability. I have 1650 books available in North America and 500 in the UK.

Purchasing in North America (destinations in USA, Canada, and Mexico)

Pre-orders are available now for delivery to destinations in North America only. Because you have signed up for this newsletter you are first to receive this pre-order information. Pre-ordered books should ship on or around October 12, 2022. Books will be shipped by USPS Media Mail with an average shipping time of 7 days. If there is any change to the expected ship date I will let you know.

Purchasing in the United Kingdom

Books will not be order-able until they arrive at the Amazon warehouse in the UK, around October, 20, 2022. I will send out another newsletter when they are available for order. These books will be fulfilled by Amazon UK and they don’t allow me to offer you a pre-order.

Purchasing in Western Europe and elsewhere

I hope to be able to offer the physical book in select countries in Western Europe and I’m working on it. For Australia, New Zealand, S. Africa, and elsewhere I will probably offer an epub (i.e. possibly Kindle or another type of epub).

Journey to Self-Publishing a Book

In a separate blog entry I will tell you more about my adventurers in self-publishing a physical book. Here is a little preview.

The leap from an electronic publication to a physical book is a big one involving selecting a printer, deciding how many books to print and all the little details of how to fulfil orders (collect orders, pack and ship) to places where people might like to buy the book. I’ve spend countless hours in research.

Ultimately I decided to fulfill books to destinations in North America myself. So the 1650 books coming to the USA will be delivered to my house. This is a rather frightening, but I’m hoping to put together a cast of family and friends to help me. For pre-ordered books I will be able to get all the labels and boxes ready before the books arrive, so hopefully it’s just a matter of putting the books into boxes, sealing them and taking them to the postal drop off. I’m hoping that most of the books sell on pre-order, but I’m having visions of my daughter coming home from college to a bedroom full of boxes. She won’t be pleased…

Because I am not in the UK, those books will be fulfilled by Amazon UK. I am looking into how to sell to countries in Western Europe, but there is an additional challenge because I have to apply for VAT (Value Added Tax) in each country and I only know English. I’m going to start with the Netherlands because my husband is from there, then try France because I have a two daughters who are fluent in French.

I looked into many options for how to get the books directly to Canada for distribution, but splitting the shipment into 3 parts was going to make the book too expensive for everyone, so books to Canada will be shipped from the USA. I feel badly for my Canadian friends because the shipping cost is rather steep.
