TREE OF LIGHT blanket

KnitTing Pattern, by Margaret Holzmann

Simple shapes and carefully chosen colors are used to create this spruce tree, which we’ve worked in a holiday theme. The small colored squares suggest stars or festive lights.

Alternate Color Designs

For a summer-time tree, exchange the white chevrons for a spring yellow-green, and change the small squares in the tree to one of the existing green colors. Alternate the background color of each horizontal using light, desaturated greens, browns, and blues to suggest a sky and fields.

A CHRISTMAS TREE that will keep you warm

This blanket is worked in elongated mitered squares, and chevron strips in two large pieces which are then sewn together. So most of the knitting is modular. There are two blanket sizes, small and large. The large is featured in the photos.

The colors have been thoughtfully chosen from the Cascade 220 Superwash, worsted line.

To get this pattern, buy the book, Margaret Holzmann’s Iconic Knit Blankets and More that includes this pattern, my other holiday patterns, and many other blankets, pillows, table runners, and wearables to celebrate our favorite things.

INSPIRATION

I love mitered squares and their endless possibilities. These are elongated mitered squares and are very easy to make. I have seen some quilts of large trees, and that inspired me to try to make a knitted tree.
