Inspiration: Tenements in lower east side, New York City. I went on a great tour of these historically restored tenements showing how many families got their start in the 1800’s by running sweat shops in their small apartments.

This colorful blanket, pictured to the left, was designed during our Safe at Home period and inspired by my daughter’s situation, staying at home on the lower east side of New York City.

It is available as a knitting pattern, worked entirely in garter stitch using a bit of intarsia, and some pick up and knit. Its horizontal strips are sewn together.

This pattern is being released here on my website while the sample is being completed. Check back for photos of the completed blanket, and in the meantime enjoy some photos of some of the inspirations for this design. The sample is being worked in Plymouth Encore.
