The color scheme for this blanket is referred as Analogous, meaning that the colors (chartreuse to blue, which are “cool” colors) are adjacent to one another on a color wheel. Try any of these alternative adjacent color schemes for variety noting that some include warm colors and others cool colors.

• Magenta to yellow-green (warm)

• Blue to magenta (cool)

• Aqua to Purple (cool)

• Yellow to Aqua (warm to cool)

For a scrappy look, use white or pale colors for the large background colors of the block, and randomly choose bright or dark colors from your stash for each pinwheel square and arm stripe as shown in the Stash-busting version illustration.

Verdant is worked in 7 beautiful shades of Lang Yarns Merino 120, a light worsted yarn. The blanket is worked in blocks that are sewn together.

Inspiration

The block design for this blanket is variation on the Whirlwind quilt block pictured below. This variation has a square in the center and striped arms. The dark block is the negative of the light block.
