Alternate Color Designs for wavesblanket

To experiment with colors for this blanket, see the the Supplemental Content (access code at end of book) to download a coloring page to experiment with your own color ideas.

This design is ideal for color shifting yarns, and there are quite a few gorgeous ones to choose from in the Cascade 220 lineup if you want a different color scheme.

When using a brighter yarn, use Jet #815 as the background. When using a darker Waves colorway, use a lighter background color. In the suggestions below, “A” is the background color used for the areas between strips and wedges and the border. “B” is the Waves yarn, and “C” is the coordinating solid used for the insides on the right and left edges of the blanket.

  • Dark Teal, Brown, Beige: A: 870, B: 115, C: 856

  • Grays and Tans, Light Blue: A: 815, B: 861, C: 101

  • Earthtones: A: 872, B: 102, C: 818

  • Greens and Tans: A: 819, B: 103, C: 312

  • Purple, lavender and spring green: A: 115, B: 112, C: 1949

  • Yellows and Reds: A: 815, B, 108, C: 1975

  • Aqua, Orange, Yellow and Lavender: A: 815, B: 113, C: 1952 (orange) or (227 (aqua)

Here is the blanket in a yarn that has shorter color repeats which gives the design some secondary striping.

Waves is worked in Cascade 220 Superwash Waves, colorway “Spring” #114 which features soft green, aqua and purple and everything in between. Just start knitting and the yarn does all the work! The solid contrast colors are from Cascade 200 Superwash Solids.

Inspiration

The block design for this blanket is the observation that a petal, or wedge shape, can be easily worked up with a simple short row repeat. The petal shape is used in this design and in the Sunburst Blanket.

I also love to work with color-shifting yarns and this design, with the long strips of continuous yarn, was an opportunity to use Cascade “Waves” although I had a very hard time choosing which beautiful colorway to feature. See swatches of all below.
