Almost any contrasting color combinations that you like will work for this design. Just make sure that subsequent colors have high contrast so that you can see the squares.

Inspiration

I was an engineer at JPL and our typical spacecraft was spin-stabilized along the axis of the direction that the spacecraft travels. Decreasing the rate of spin is sometimes done by a process called de-tumbling.

I chose very bright primary colors plus green for this design to highlight the blocks.

The blanket below, made by Karyn Matveyenko, was knitted from her stash in subtle earthy colors. When she ran short of yarn, she worked the i-cord border which requires substantially less yardage.
