Alternate Color Designs for Rivers

To experiment with colors for this blanket, see the the Supplemental Content (access code in the pattern) to download a coloring page to experiment with your own color ideas.

We chose a subdued color palette for this blanket with dusty colors and some earthy hues. Consider a midnight woods palette with monochromes and blues, or a brighter color palette with more pure jewel tones, splashes of yellow, orange and bright apple green.

Beautiful colors make a beautiful blanket

The tree blocks and edge blocks are sewn together into vertical strips, and the strips are then sewn together. The borders are picked up and knit from the edges of the completed blanket. The supplemental materials for the pattern (link in the pattern), provides an alternative construction worked in Intarsia strips.

Valley Yarns Northampton is a workhorse yarn of soft Peruvian wool dyed into a beautiful collection of solid colors and heathered shades.

INSPIRATION

The inspiration for this blanket is the lush forests of my childhood in northern Michigan. There were miles and miles of pine trees. As a child I thought they would never end. And of course I love Christmas trees too!
